Franz Schubert (1797-1828)

Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. posth. 114, D 667 “Trout Quintet”

Recorded live on August 10, 2023, at the Church of Saanen

The theme of Schubert’s famous song “Die Forelle” (“The Trout”) served as the basis for the variations in the fourth movement of his Piano Quintet in A major D 677. The piece was commissioned with the specific request that it include variations on this song, as its patron greatly admired “Die Forelle”.

Even if you have heard the “Trout Quintet” many times before, this interpretation deserves special attention. Not only is the ensemble outstanding, but Kopatchinskaja and her fellow musicians play with unbridled passion, consciously pushing musical boundaries to let you experience this work in a completely new way.
