Willard Carter plays Souvenir de Spa by Adrien-François Servais and Cello Concerto No. 1 by Joseph Haydn.

 

Willard Carter started cello lessons at the age of 4. He joined Wells Cathedral School as a chorister at the age of 8. In 2013 Willard Carter moved to The Purcell School to study cello with Alexander Boyarsky. In 2016 Willard joined the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music, to extend his opportunities to play chamber music. In 2018 he moved to Madrid to study with Ivan Monighetti at the Escuela de Musica Reina Sofia.

Carter played his first recital with Barry Rose OBE on organ in Wiltshire, in 2014. He has since played recitals in Somerset, Wiltshire and London, Florence, Poppi, Osimo, Pratovecchio, Stia in Italy and in Sagamore Hill, New York. He has performed in the Charterhouse, the Wigmore Hall, Goldsmith’s Hall, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace and will return to Buckingham Palace once again this year on Classic Fm. Hw won the Two Moors Festival Young Musicians Platform competition in 2013, as well as the Nancy Carr Memorial Prize, multiple awards at the Royal College of Music junior department, Raphael Sommer Scholarship, the Ealing Concerto Prize, Rickmansworth Young Musician 2018, the Gregynog Young Musician and ongoing scholarship from the Musik Akademie of Liechtenstein.

Ivan Monighetti – A great cellist and wonderful teacher

Ivan Monighetti was Mstislav Rostropovich’s last student at the Moscow Conservatory. He was a top prizewinner in many international competitions including the 1974 Tchaikovsky competition, and since then he has enjoyed a career which has taken him all over Europe, to America, Japan and Korea.

Ivan Monighetti participated in many important festivals such as Ravinia festival, Berliner Festwochen, Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, Argerich Festival, the Cello Festival in Kronberg, Holland Music Session.

As a soloist he has performed with many of the world’s great orchestras and conductors, including the Berlin Philharmonic under Krzysztof Penderecki, the Leipzig Gewandhaus under Kurt Masur, the Gulbenkian Orchestra under Muhai Tang, the Moscow Philharmonic under Mstislav Rostropovich, Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev, SWR Stuttgart under Andrey Boreyko and Sinfonia Varsovia under Charles Dutoit.

Ivan Monighetti ́s sensational appearances at numerous contemporary music festivals have brought him a wide reputation as one of the leading figures in the field of modern music. He is constantly expanding his musical range as a result of his work with contemporary composers such as Penderecki, Dutilleux, Tan Dun, Knaifel, Gubaidulina, Silvestrov, Ali-Zadeh. Many works written especially for him are now part of the established cello repertoire.

Monighetti is also highly respected for his expertise in the performance practice of the 18th and 19th centuries and is the founding director of the Moscow early music festival. He has collaborated with musicians such as Anner Bylsma, Nancy Argenta, Simon Standage, Ronald Brautigam, Wieland Kuijken, Andrew Manze.

Among his chamber music partners were Marta Argerich, Sol Gabetta, Sabine Meyer, Liana Issakadze, Michail Pletnev, Arto Noras, Rafael Oleg.

Ivan Monighetti has now a varied career as a cello soloist and a conductor of international repute. He conducted an English Haydn Festival Orchestra, Österreichisch-Slowakische Philharmonie, Moscow Sympnonie Orchestra, Sinfonia Juventus, Nizniy Novgorod Symphonie, Arpeggione Orchestra, Musica Viva Moscow, Algarve Symphonie, Viva Cello Festival Orchestra.
